Celebrating Couples | Perth Family Photographer

It was Valentine’s Day yesterday and we’re pretty embarrassed to admit that we forgot all about it until we logged onto Facebook in the afternoon and were bombarded with pictures of love hearts and flowers.  Whoops :)  I think that the most “romantic” thing that we managed to do was to head out to Bunnings before the girls bedtime.  Not quite as good as the year that we decided that it would be fun to check out the opening of the new Ikea on Valentine’s Day – it was crazy busy and our plans of meatballs for dinner were quickly postponed!

We are all for romance but it is a bit hard to organise babysitting and a romantic night out when the rest of Perth is trying to do the same thing :)

Valentines Day made us think about a part of our sessions that we don’t often blog about.  We value family photos and recording images of your kids as they get older but, if the parents are willing, we also love to take them away from the kids for a few minutes and get some shots celebrating them as a couple.

When you are having a rough day – and this happens more often than anyone would like when you have little children running around the house – it is great to have a visual reminder of an amazing afternoon where you didn’t have to worry about cooking dinner, doing the washing, cleaning while mediating between siblings.

We have the following photo of the two of us hanging above our bed and it alwas makes us smile and feel that, no matter what the day has been like, overall we are very lucky and that life is pretty fantastic.

Happy Valentines Day!

Starting School | Natural Light Photography

The first day of school.  Alexis starts Kindy this year and Alyssa is a big Year 1 :)  It was so sweet to see Alyssa spend the morning with her big sister hat on: telling Alexis everything that she would need to know about going to school.

Although we were expecting tears (Monika’s) the whole morning ran really smoothly.  Both girls were very excited to be going to school together and Alexis almost forgot to say goodbye when the bell rang and the parents had to leave :)

Lost Tooth | Perth Family Photographer

It finally, FINALLY happened!  The wobbly tooth is no longer wobbly and Alyssa couldn’t be prouder.  The tooth fairy made an appearance on Friday night, although she only remembered at the very last minute – phew :)

How long did it take for the first wobbly tooth to fall out at your house?  Seven months feels like a bit of a record!

P.S.  If you noticed that Alyssa’s face looks a bit puffy that would be because she was in the middle of a gigantic tantrum when the tooth fell out.  Funnily enough her tears were forgotten the second she saw that little white tooth.

Esperance | Natural Light Family Photography

Our family was lucky enough to head back to Esperance for another camping trip this year.  Once again we spent lots of time relaxing at Wharton Beach :)

As the weather was a unusually cool for a few days, we decided that this year would be the perfect time to climb Frenchman’s Peak at Cape Le Grand National Park.  The last time that we did this was before kids – about nine years ago.

Initially we tried to convince some friends to join us with their 15 month old and luckily they declined because as it turns out Frenchman’s Peak is much steeper than we remembered! Both girls were happy to climb up on their own to start but after a while Tristan had to carry Alexis up (as well as all his camera gear) while I was dealing with a backpack and an over-sized belly.

At about 3 flags from the top we decided that we’d come far enough.  The wind was picking up and, although the girls were quite happy to keep going, we weren’t!  I must admit that it was a relief to climb down again and find a nice flat spot to take some family photos.

One last photo of the girls enjoying sand and the sunshine :)
